Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) - Vancouver
We provide IMS therapy in downtown Vancouver & area. Intramuscular stimulation (IMS), also known as dry-needling, is a therapy that is focused on understanding, treating, and alleviating discomfort caused by chronic or acute injuries, muscle tension, and tightness, decreased range of motion, and a number of other health conditions.
There are many different methods of treating these conditions, but IMS is quickly becoming one of the most popular, and effective, forms of treatment. IMS is a physio treatment that helps loosen stiff muscles, ease joint pain, and improve blood and oxygen flow in the body. It is a great way to optimize sports performance, recover faster from injury, as well as prevent issues from becoming chronic.

Our Approach
What makes IMS unique at Vancouver Physiotherapy Hub is our approach: IMS been found to be the most effective through a multi-treatment approach. This is because dry needling, in effect, is meant to treat not only your pain but the underlying condition that causes this pain.
Our physiotherapists work to incorporate dry needling into a larger, holistic treatment plan in order to ensure the best recovery possible for you. In addition, Vancouver Physiotherapy Hub is excited to be part of Electra Health, a multidisciplinary clinic with over 45 healthcare professionals.
What Can I Expect From My Session?
Dry needling targets trigger points and hypertonic (tight) bands in your myofascial tissue. During your assessment, your physiotherapist creates a roadmap of the trigger points in your body by identifying problematic muscles and tight spots within them.
A small filiform needle is then inserted into these areas and the metabolic waste built up inside the tissue is released. The body increases blood flow and oxygen to the area. When incorporated into a larger, multi-treatment plan, dry needling has been found to be a precise and effective method of treating and relieving muscular pain caused by trigger points.

IMS can help improve flexibility, increase blood flow and energy, relax tight muscles and improve chronic pain. IMS has also been found to be helpful for the following conditions:
- Tennis elbow

Acupuncture is a medical practice that is (commonly**) rooted in traditional Chinese medicine. It is meant to alleviate pain or treat various health conditions, primarily through the alteration of Qi (energy flow).
IMS is a modern, science-based intervention for treatment and dysfunction of the musculoskeletal system, and is used by physiotherapists as a means of pain control, tension relief, and improving range of motion.
While most patients do not describe pain during this physio treatment, the location of the injury can affect the amount of discomfort that is experienced. While most patients do not feel the insertion of the needle, the needle can elicit a twitch response in the muscle that can cause some, although very brief, discomfort.
IMS is an effective form of physiotherapy for anyone experiencing chronic or acute pain, inflexibility, muscle tension, tightness and a variety of other health conditions. Its integration into a larger treatment plan makes it one of the most effective methods of treating ongoing discomfort.
At Vancouver Physiotherapy Hub, our physiotherapists incorporate dry needling into a larger treatment plan to not only alleviate your pain but also stop it from happening in the first place.
